FAQ's
Contracting
Do you require long term contracts?
No. Our promise to you is that the DMVDesk™ suite of products and services will continue to be the best available to solve your registration needs. However, if you feel another company best serves your needs then we encourage you do what’s best for your company. You should use DMVDesk™ because you want to, not because you’re forced to. We believe that contract language that threatens “monetary penalties” is inappropriate and does not appear in MVSC contracts.
How do I get started?
Simply contact Motor Vehicle Software Corporation at 877.DMV.DESK (368.3375).
We are already a Second Line Business Partner. Can we electronically file using DMVDesk™?
Yes. But first we’ll need to notify the DMV that you will be using Motor Vehicle Software Corporation as your First Line Service Provider. All that is involved is a simple one page form. It is your responsibility to ensure your contractual obligations with your existing First Line Service Provider, if any, are fulfilled prior to notifying the DMV of your new service provider.
How much does it cost?
DMVDesk™ standard subscription fee is $200 per month, however DMVDesk™ is free if you use our electronic registration system (minimum usage is required). Here’s how it works. As a Second Line Business Partner (SLBP) with the DMV, a dealership may charge those customers who elect to file electronically a maximum of $28 per vehicle (disclosed on the contract as a “DMV Electronic Filing Fee". Once the electronic filing is completed through DMVDesk™, we charge the dealer for the transaction. Depending upon the services we provide, the amount we charge per transaction will generally be less than the amount the dealership collects from their customer, effectively making usage of DMVDesk™ free. Please call us at 877.DMV.DESK for current transactional pricing.
Do we have to electronically file our registrations in order to take advantage of DMVDesk™?
No. DMVDesk™ can accommodate electronic and manual DMV submissions. The electronic logbook is just as useful for tracking items that were mailed to the DMV as it is for electronic registrations. DMVDesk™ will completely track your filing, print and reconcile your bundles, and give you peace of mind.
Why did you choose to make DMVDesk™ an online system?
First and foremost, it’s because of the many benefits it provides to you – the customer. Changes in DMV policies, state laws, fee changes, and technology improvements all require immediate reaction and response. Everyone has experienced the frustration of waiting for critical updates, the pain of waiting for on-site support, and hardware and software compatability problems. DMVDesk’s™ on-line system eliminates all those headaches. Updates are made system-wide and support is immediate.
Of course! We think you’ll find that DMVDesk™ is so intuitive that very little training is necessary. But, if on site training is necessary MVSC can schedule a session at your dealership.
BPA
I’m already a Second Line Business Partner. Can I still use DMVDesk™ for all my logbook needs and still maintain my relationship with my current First Line Service Provider?
Of course. Using the DMVDesk's™ eFiling feature is purely optional. Using another vendor for your Commercial Requestor (KSR) needs is also an option. However, DMVDesk's™ eFiling and KSR services are all integrated into the DMVdesk logbook, providing you with a far more efficient registration system.
What do I need to do to become a Second Line Business Partner?
The Department of Motor Vehicles requires the completion of a number of forms, a security document and a Bond. MVSC personnel will assist in the completion of all required documents.
I want to participate in the Business Partner Automation program, but I don’t want the liability of keeping plates and stickers at my dealership. Is there any way for me to participate without distributing plates?
Absolutely. DMVDesk's™ Centralized Plate Distribution system allows you, as a Second Line Business Partner, to register vehicles electronically without having to worry about the storage of plates, stickers and registration paper. Plates are distributed to your customers within a time interval you specify from MVSC’s central distribution office. And if a customer ever calls about the status of their plates, DMVDesk™ provides up-to-the-minute shipping and tracking details.
We were told the DMV requires us to maintain a locking cabinet or safe for the plates and stickers. Is this true?
Not anymore. Motor Vehicle Software Corporation has pioneered the PlateFree™ centralized plate distribution system. Our sophisticated inventory management system keeps detailed records of plates, stickers and tags so that you don’t have to. And, with Auto Advisory Services supervising the process, you can rest assured the DMV has given us their blessing.
Do we have to get approval from the DMV to use DMVDesk™?
No. DMVDesk™ can automate your existing manual registration processes and give you all the benefits of using the electronic logbook as described above without DMV approval. However, in order to charge your customers for electronic filing and before you can submit bundles electronically, you must be approved as a Second Line Business Partner with the DMV. Also, a Commercial Requestor account is required to run KSRs.
Who reviews our registration paperwork?
If you use DMVDesk™ to perform electronic filing, its like having an Auto Advisory Services trained expert review every transfer prior to submission. Here’s how it works. Once your DMV Desk personnel enters the transfer information into DMVDesk™, instead of mailing all the documents (i.e., RS, title, REG 262, etc.) to the DMV, you mail it to us. Auto Advisory Services trained personnel then review the documentation carefully for errors. If an error is found, we will call the dealership for more information.
Yes, but only to show where the computers accessing the BPA system will be placed. Since there will be no storage of indicia there is no need to show safes, locking filing cabinets or other secure areas for indicia storage.
